Client Spotlight: Disability Rights Maine

Disability Rights Maine (DRME) is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to advance justice and equality by enforcing rights and expanding opportunities for people with disabilities in Maine. They’re a group of talented and passionate individuals who work with schools, workplaces, businesses, and public spaces to advocate for individuals with disabilities. Since 2021, we’ve had the pleasure of working with DRME to produce their PSAs, explainer videos, and promotional videos; helping to educate Mainers about their own options and rights and how the services offered by DRME can support them.

Public Service Announcement

Client: Disability Rights Maine

Date completed: 2024

No Umbrella Media’s Role: Film, Edit, Subtitle Services.

This public service announcement was created to provide information to members of the deaf community around medical terminology they may not already be familiar with. At the onset of this project, we met with DRME to discuss their objectives for the video, as well as their deadline and their budget. Then, at our studio in Portland, we filmed an ASL interpreter that used sign language and a script provided by DRME to explain this important information around medical terminology. Once filming was completed, we editing the video, incorporating subtitles and a simple graphic around the interpreter. To create the subtitles, we utilized a process that ensured we accurately interpreted the sign language from the presentation, which was then confirmed by DRME in their final review of the video. We were able to successfully deliver the finished project to DRME  before their deadline and within their budget. To see this video and others on DRME’s page, click here!

No Umbrella Media’s Role: Storyboard, Character Development, Animation, Sound Design, Voiceover.

This short animated video provides an overview of the work of DRME, how you can reach out for assistance and what to expect when you contact their office. For this project, we started by writing a script that detailed DRME’s intended message for the video. Using this script, we then recorded the voiceover completely in house using our own recording equipment and the voice of our own creative director! Finally, we created the art and animations to correspond with the voiceover. We were thrilled to present to DRME a finished project that fulfilled their goals for the video, met their deadlines, and remained within their budget.
